Win #1 - Atlanta Hawks 2010-15 Alternate Inspired
"AVL" is the airport code and popular abbreviation, so naturally this was an easy inspiration.
Win #2 - Charlotte Hornets 1988-97 Home Inspired
Charlotte Hornets being the closest geographic NBA team to Asheville, this was another logical inspiration. The same beloved iconic Hornets pinstriping but limited to a blue color palette.
Win #3 - 2003 NCAA Tournament Run Tribute
This is a tribute to the schools first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003 vs. Texas. The decision to use black was yet another tribute to the black alternate jerseys adorned in a historic NCAA Tournament appearance where we were a few moments from knocking off the 1-Seed Syracuse as a 16-Seed.
Win #4 - Blue Ridge Parkway Tribute
This is a tribute to the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway and its signage. Featuring the same National Park style typography and colorway.
Win #5 - 1985 Soccer Kit Tribute
This is a deep cut inspiration lifted right off of the old yearbook pages from the Men's Soccer team. The wordmark is retained but modernized using our current Bulldog Head mark.
Win #6 - John Williams / Vince Carter / Asheville Smoke Tribute
This is a tribute to one of the most explosive players in Asheville Men's Basketball history in John Williams (2nd in NCAA dunk contest, Harlem Globetrotter ("Jet") and his Honey Dip dunk awfully reminiscent in style and form as the illustrious & legendary NBA dunker Toronto Raptors Vince Carter. The colorway is also reminiscent of the defunct UHL hockey team that played in Asheville, the Asheville Smoke.
Win #7 - The Biltmore Estate Tribute
This is a tribute to the Biltmore Estate. Built in the late 1880s, it is widely regarded as the most prominent examples of Gilded Age mansions. I wanted to channel that stone and lavish look, embracing the luxury of the time.
Win #8 - 1996 Inspired
This is a modern reboot of the 1996 season uniform. The classic varsity serif is too timeless to not resurrect. I retained the vintage Rocky-flex mark and placed it at the base of the collar. This jersey felt like its channeling another classic deep navy Bulldog basketball team in Butler.
Win #9 - The Mr. Moon Tribute
If you've ever looked for something to do in Asheville and ended up at an Asheville Tourists minor league baseball game at McCormick Field (3rd oldest ballpark in the minor leagues), then you're familiar with the humanoid mascot Mr. Moon.
Win #10 - The Crash Davis Bull Durham Tribute
The Asheville Tourists were featured in the classic baseball film Bull Durham. The titular character Crash Davis (played by Kevin Costner) was shown playing for Asheville. A fun baseball/basketball crossover.
Win #11 - The Legend of The Jordan Dunk
The lore of the greatest to ever play Michael Jordan himself visiting UNC Asheville's campus in 1983 and playing in a pick-up game AND photographed mid-dunk. C'mon, this kind of thing has to live forever.
Win #12 - Tie Dye Jersey
Its widely known that Asheville prides itself in "Keeping It Weird" so it seemed fitting to lean into the hippie era classic groovy design with a tie dye jersey. On fair weather evenings in Pritchard Park in the middle of downtown you can often find the communal Drum Circle...peace and love!
Win #13 - The White-Out Jersey
Being located in the heart of the mountains, occasionally Asheville will get a fresh coat of snow that blankets the area. It was only fitting to pay homage to the winter weather, complete with paw snow prints.
Win #14 - The Blue Ridge Mountain Range Jersey
The Blue Ridge Mountain range is a strong presence in the area has a profound impact on the landscape. I wanted to lean into UNCA being blue prominent mimicking the blue tints & shades in the range in the right light. This design is similar conceptually the the Cleveland Cavalier's "The Land" jersey.
Win #15 - City Hall / City Flag Jersey
The City Hall building is an impressive art deco masterpiece that is in the National Register of Historic places. The tiling is reflected in the jersey along with the color palette of the City flag.
Win #16 - The "Botans" Jersey
If you've been a student at UNCA, then you know them as the "Botans" but the Botanical Gardens is the formal name. Founded in 1961, its dedicated to the study and promotion of the native plants and habitats of the Southern Appalachians and includes more than 650 species. The established logo for the gardens includes a trillium, so naturally the wordmark is garnished by the same.
Win #17 - The Ingles Advantage Card Jersey
The first Ingles grocery store was in Asheville in 1963. If you've ever visited Asheville and bought groceries, chances are, you're very familiar. As a student, money savings is crucial. This is not a paid ad, it just pays to have a grocery savings card.
Win #18 - The Blue Out Jersey
Often the student section will have themed home game nights in correspondence with the team. In order to mimic the Blue-Out theme often implemented, here's one that's minimal and further emphasis on the BLUE.
Win #19 - The Beer City Jersey
What started as a poll a decade or so ago by The Examiner to crown the next proverbial Beer City, turned into a national recognition that the area of Asheville truly was a beer capital of sorts. Now the crown has rotated to Portland or Ann Arbor, Asheville remains a beer stronghold and especially in the southeast U.S. its hard to top. This jersey showcases the organic beer tones and highlights the hops and barley shapes.
Win #20 - The Eastern Band of Cherokee Jersey
Asheville is situated on native land. To the Cherokee people it is named ᏙᎩᏯᏍᏗ “the place where they race”. Its important to recognize those that came before us and to continue to recognize them. This jersey colorway is from the EBC nation flag and features the dilsdohdi (water spider) and the trademark Cherokee rivercane basket weave patterns.
